Temporary closure of Self Assessment Helpline after permanent shut down of VAT Registration Helpline
Parker & Co is always committed in having our customers informed on crucial updates in order to make important day to day decisions and let businesses thrive!
Very recently, HMRC has announced that it has temporarily closed its Self Assessment helpline until 4th of September ’23 followed by permanent closure of its VAT Registration helpline on 22 May 2023. The reason for the closure is attributed to staffing issues as HMRC spirals down with its digitisation programme in 2016 after facing Covid .
The digitisation programme was set up with the primary goal to boost tax revenue and enhance customer service. Despite its measures, businesses find that the customer service is sharply declining from having to wait for confirmation of VAT application via post to chatbot assistance for customer grievances.
HMRC further updates that it will be attending to only 6,600 calls per day. To counteract the recent HMRC measures, customers are advised to
- Contact HMRC’s income tax helpline on 0300 200 3300 for employment or PAYE queries.
- Utilise online resources or real-time webchat service.
- Log in to your Personal Tax Account to retrieve your Unique Taxpayer Reference and PAYE tax records.
Parker & Co remains faithful to our customers during these times and if you need any further assistance, please feel free to contact us on 01633 746666 as we are always finding ways to help.
