Press Release

Changes to Companies House fees

Fee Adjustments Effective May 2024

Starting May 1, 2024, Companies House is set to increase its fees for all its services.

This is in response to the Economic Crime and Corporate Transparency (ECCT) Act, which came into law in October 2023. Companies House emphasizes that the restructuring is not profit driven but is a response to the changes and the requirement to recover its costs.

Some of the changes introduced by the act include:

  • greater powers to query information submitted to Companies House and request supporting evidence
  • stronger checks on company names
  • new rules for registered office addresses to ensure anti-money laundering regulations are adhered to
  • a requirement for all companies to supply a registered email address
  • a requirement for all companies to confirm lawful incorporation, and to confirm its intended future activities will be lawful on their confirmation statement
  • the ability to annotate documents held on the register when information appears confusing or misleading
  • taking steps to clean up the register, using data matching to identify and remove inaccurate information
  • sharing data with other government departments and law enforcement agencies

These changes will be implemented on a stage-by-stage basis, with the initial stage being actioned on March 4th. The focus will be on the following three points:

  • new rules for registered office addresses
  • requirement for all companies to supply a registered email address
  • new lawful purpose statements

Unfortunately, the fees for some services have increased significantly as you will see by the below table, and this will have a knock-on effect on the fees that are charged by accountants across the industry.

See below for a current vs new fees charged by Companies House.
